“Hi, my name is Meghann Shaughnessy. I'm 31 years old. I've been training at the ITUSA Tennis Academy for about 18 years now. I moved up here when I was 13 years old. I'm originally from Tucson, Arizona, and I've been training here ever since. It's what I attribute most of my success to — it's an amazing academy. It's all about hard work, putting in the hours and really devoting yourself to be the best you can be.”

Dear Rafael,
These articles making false claims about the relationship between you and my daughter Meghann Shaughnessy could not be farther from the truth.
Today, when I think back about Meghann's early tennis development, I have the advantage of a very distinctive perspective. Meghann, as an adolescent, had an undeniable drive to perfect her tennis abilities. However, until she met you, Rafael, she did not have a role-model, coach, or manager (and you were/are all three of these) who could even begin to help her attain a high level of achievement in world class tennis. Your own character traits of unwavering loyalty, respect, and determination provided Meghann in her early years (and still provide her now) with the support, strong direction, and stellar coaching that have brought her to the heights of her tennis career. And I have no doubt that her remaining professional tennis seasons will be completed with even greater mutual respect and admiration between the two of you and those who know you well.
I, as a mother and a dear friend, am in awe of how masterfully you and Meghann have orchestrated your journey together in world class tennis. And, I await with bated breath to observe the grand finish that you both deserve, whenever and wherever that may be.
